WOMEN’S BAR COMMITTEE
QUARTERLY MEETING
WINE SOCIAL

SEPTEMBER 29, 2016

AGENDA:

  • 5:00–7:00 p.m. Wine Social at the Grape Life

We are looking to reinvigorate the Women’s Bar Committee. Although the September event is planned as a social event, we will be asking for topic suggestions for future meetings at the event. As a committee, we want to ensure we are continuing to provide relevant discussion and presentation topics. Please come prepared with your ideas!
We will have an open bar for the first $400 in wine. We will also have appetizers.
OVERVIEW OF THE WOMEN’S BAR COMMITTEE
We meet four times a year, typically during lunch. Our goal is two-fold with these luncheons: (1) to discuss relevant legal and workplace issues affecting women attorneys; and (2) to inspire women in their practice of law.

FUTURE LUNCHEONS
Mark your calendars now for our future luncheons:

  • Thursday, December 1, 2016 (IL)
  • Thursday, February 16, 2017 (IA)
  • Thursday, May 25, 2017 (IL)

Please feel free to e-mail Kelsey Marquard at [email protected] or Sarah Gorham at [email protected] with any ideas for future luncheon topics, to sign up for the Women’s Bar Committee, or if you have any questions or comments.

New Security Protocol Set to Begin on Monday, June 20th at all Rock Island County Court Facilities

Attached is a memorandum from Sheriff Bustos that was sent out this morning explaining the new security procedures to the Judges and Elected Officials. Private attorneys visiting Rock Island County court facilities (for now) may by-pass the new screening procedures at the public point of entry by presenting their Illinois State Bar card to the bailiffs and court security personnel working. Those who do not will be subject to the screening process (similar to TSA). The “pre-check” screening program should be in place within the next 30-90 days. Private attorneys at that point, should they so choose, may participate in the program and receive a “pre-check” screening card from the Sheriff’s Office for a small fee. This will provide them access and the ability to by-pass screening procedures outside random periodic compliance checks. Once the “pre-check” screening program is in place you will no longer be permitted to use of the Illinois Bar Association card as means to avoid screening.
